Jim:
I do have photos of the Elmore plant - I stopped there on my way to Philadelphia last summer, knowing that I would need some for this project. I have photos of the plant and of the town itself. Let me know what you need in terms of resolution/image size and I'll send them to you via your e-mail address. I don't have any photos of the Reading plant. I'll have the first episode (on the uses, sources, and geology) posted today - all that needs finishing is adding the credits at the end. The second episode, on the mining, refining, and hazards (where I'll use the Elmore photos) will take another week or two. I'm in the middle of some tight deadlines on some business videos I'm working on that are taking most of my time right now.

Hi David,
Like your website. Do you have any photos of the Elmore or Reading beryllium plants? I have an article by John F. Zielinski, Medical Director of Brush dated 2/21/62 that has some great Elmore photos in it but my copy doesn't do them justice. i haven't come across any Reading plant shots.
Please let me know if yo have any photos or you know of any sources I could check with. I have already been in contact with Mark Kolanz with reference to the photos in the book n Be Brush had published. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Jim Johnson

Given how toxic it is, it's lucky it is so rare. The obvious way of synthesis - two alpha particles colliding - doesn't work; Be8 has a half life of just over a millionth of a trillionth of a second - not long enough to capture another neutron. But I suppose if it had been common, we would have evolved to tolerate it.
